 Meet Survivor and former Partisan, Jack Kagan. Hear his story - how he escaped the Novogrudek concentration camp and survived the Holocaust by hiding in the forests of Belarus with the Bielski Partisan fighters. Watch the BBC documentary “Extreme Survival" by Ray Mears which tells the incredible story of the extreme conditions in which the Partisans lived, and the Naliboki Forest that sheltered them.

BBC Documentary “Extreme Survival": Ray Mears travels to the Naliboki Forest, Belarus, providing him with ample opportunity to test out his bush-craft skills and learn some new ones. While visiting the region, Mears recounts the harrowing tale of Jewish refugees during the Second World War who hid in the Naliboki Forest and trained as a partisan army. "We called the place 'Jerusalem of the Forest' because it was like a magnet for all the Jews in the area," explains one survivor.  After hearing the stories of their escape, evasion and resistance, Mears admits that "it was the most emotionally draining experience of my life." 

The story of the Bielski Partisans will soon be featured in a new multimillion dollar film called “Defiance" starring 007 actor Daniel Craig, Liev Schreiber and Jamie Bell.
